This aspect of tweaking the game proved vital to Civil War aficionados looking for historically accurate models. This ultimately led to the creation of other famous battles such as the Battle of Fredericksburg, the First Battle of Bull Run, the Peninsula Campaign, and more. Gettysburg was followed by Sid Meier. Sid Meier's Gettysburg is still one of the best American Civil War games ever made personally. This game feels like it gameplay wise to an extent, but doesn't have that same awesome feel that made Sid Meier's just amazing. You can say without the Generals talking in briefings, feels like a game. Jul 22, 2014 Well, Sid Meier's Gettysburg and UGG may both owe initial inspiration to that half-century old book on the Civil War (from American Heritage, IIRC) with double page cyclo-diorama-like 'paintings' depicting the phases of major battles including terrain and representative forces of tiny blue and grey figures. UGG is a big step forward. Firaxis Games is an American video game developer based in Sparks, Maryland. It was founded in May 1996 by Sid Meier, Jeff Briggs and Brian Reynolds as Firaxis Software, following their departure from MicroProse, which Meier had co-founded. The company was renamed to Firaxis Games in July 1997 prior to releasing any titles. It produced seven games primarily for Microsoft Windows personal. I really liked Gettysburg, and so far there isn't many civil war games to compete with it I actually Got Civilization V recently and in one of the expansion packs, there is a American Civil War scenario Civ games are great too, Overall almost everything Sid Meier created tends to be very enjoyable.
In 1997, Electronic Arts, Inc. publishes Sid Meier's Gettysburg! on Windows. This strategy game is now abandonware and is set in a historical battle (specific/exact), real-time, war and north america.

Changing lee.exe compatibility mode in Windows 7 Pro, does not work for this game. It HAS to be Windows XP, I used SP3 compatibility mode. The game WILL work, however, you should download the XP fix from here before playing as it does fix some graphic issues.
I couldn't get the v6.00 patch to work, but the XP fix did install and work.
All I did was, download the .iso file, open the .iso with WinRAR and extract it. Next, download and run the fix Win XP/2K file, then go to the folder where you extracted Gettysburg to, set compatibility mode for lee.exe to Winxp SP3, it works. This was done in Windows 7 Pro. I don't have and never will have JunkWin 10.

For Windows 10 users. Use WinRAR to mount ISO file. After that extract everything from ISO to a folder. Then just double click lee.exe and it plays. No setup required.

i got the game to work by:
downloading iso file, patch v6.00 and win/eng file in the download area.
I then unzipped iso into a 'new folder', ran 'set-up' in new disk drive that was created.
patched the installed game in created fireaxis folder, dropped in win/eng file and ran file. The win/eng file could not work.
I then went to rlee exe in game folder and changed compatability to Win95.
The game is running perfectly and I now have back one of my favorite games I had since lost.
Thank You Abandonware! :)

Question: Windows 10 Compatable ?
Gamemaster2019-04-04-1 point
My friend said he can win the campaign in one battle, it took him 8+ hours while he was working grave yard shift. I won't tell how he did it but its legendary.

Great memories with this game chasing yankees! Truly the best civil war game ever.

Imho the best adaptation of ACW ever - its complexity is just right, not as simplistic as 'Ultimate General: Gettysburg' and not as complicated as the enormous 'Scourge of War: Gettysburg', but something in between. It has a great replayability too, because you can try out different strategies. Fantastic game, and highly atmospheric.

Sid Meier, the father of the mega famous Civilization strategy game, now treats us with the Civil War collection, a fantastic trio of Sid Meier's Gettysburg! and Sid Meier's Antietam!, along with an extra eight map campaign called South Mountain, and those three games will surely keep you occupied for months, if not years on end. As with Civilization, the games do a fantastic job in bringing us the perfect strategy game where everything is thought of and there is absolutely no fault - the impeccable gameplay, the great real time action, the absolutely phenomenal graphics followed by great music to add to the atmosphere - this collection is a masterpiece. You can set the game's difficulty and, aside from the standard AI settings, you can also set a alternate historical paths, such as what would happen if a certain event in history didn't occur at all. The game gives you a great feeling of reality and excitement when playing. If you're a fan of Sid Meier's work and love historical battle strategies, this is something that you absolutely should have in your collection.
